Tango, which moves all the senses, will take us back in time, not only to the streets of old Buenos Aires, where tango was born, but also to the pre-war Warsaw restaurants and cabarets, where this South American music reigned.
The the fact that about 3,500 Polish tangos were created in pre-war Poland is a proof of immense popularity of tango in that period. They were written by both light music authors and classical music composers. The Gang Tango concert will include tangos mainly by Jewish artists: Henryk Wars, Władysław Szpilman, Jerzy Petersburski, but also other outstanding composers of this genre, such as Carlos Gardela, Gerardo Matos Rodriguez, Jacob Gade and Astor Piazzolla. One of the greatest poets of tango – Enrique Santos Discépolo, called tango a sad thought that is danced, so in the final concert of the 3rd Lubliner Festival “Tango of my Dreams” dance masters known from television screens – Anna Głogowska and Rafał Maserak as well as Anna Iberszer and Piotr Woźniak will dance on stage. The musical feast will include performances by leading Polish singers: Anna Dereszowska, Ania Karwan, Monika Chrząstowska, Kaja Mianowana, Lala Czaplicka and Kuba Badach. Gang Tango and a string quartet conducted by Sebastian Wypych will take the audience on a journey through the pre-war melodies.
Sebastian Wypych – artist, producer, soloist, chamber musician, teacher, composer, organizer, doctor of musical arts, originator of many artistic projects, including music festivals, traveller, skipper / sailor
Gang Tango – a world-class tango ensemble was founded in 2015 by the double bass player Sebastian Wypych. It is one of the few bands referring to the style of playing formerly in Argentina ‘Orquesta Tipica’ and drawing inspiration directly from Astor Piazzolla’s original band – Quinteto Tango Nuevo, but also stylistically referring to the tango bands of pre-war Warsaw.
