In this competition we are giving the voice to directors of documentary films. Each of those productions has a different theme, and they also differ in terms of their approach to the form. However, the authors are connected by their in-depth analysis and broad, nuanced look at the problems. For them, the world is not black and white, but it has all shades of grey.

Pagirnis, dir. Anastasija Pirozenko (Netherlands) 2021, 22’, 15+
The city nomads live in a trailer village on the outskirts of Amsterdam. Some of them came here out of necessity, being misfits in our society or simply because of idealistic views. For them, this self-established village gives a possibility to build their lives the way they want it. Film presented at e.g. the Jihlava IFF. Polish premiere.

Belgium 2.0, dir. Jean-Benoît Ugeux (Belgium) 2021, 15’, 13+
What happens when a world that relies on traffic and the logistics that allow it comes to a standstill? What happens when sickness and even death are taken from us? Polish premiere.

In Between Glass and Walls, dir. Razan Hassan (Netherlands) 2022, 14’, 15+
Anne couldn’t accept her own child Felix, who was born with Down syndrome. Anne tries to process her struggle through making theater with Sara, a 32-year-old woman with Down syndrome. Will they benefit by learning from each other? Polish premiere.

We Have One Heart, dir. Katarzyna Warzecha (Poland) 2020, 11’, 13+
After his mother dies, Adam comes across some letters exchanged years ago between his Polish mother and his father, a Kurd living in Iraq. This is an opportunity for him to find out more about his father, whom he never knew. Film awarded at e.g. Chicago IFF.
