Cinema in the Center in February
The month will abound in film premieres. “The Falling Leaves” by Aki Kaurismäki is considered the most charming picture of the last competition in Cannes. It’s a story about a supermarket employee and an alcohol-addicted worker who are trying to build a relationship. In turn, “Club Zero” is not only a satire on mindfulness, but also an attempt to capture the processes leading to the emergence of extreme groups. The topics discussed
in the film will serve as a basis to talk about the problems of conscious eating and its disorders during a meeting following the film. In turn, “Pianoforte” is a suspenseful story about participants of the legendary Chopin Competition entering adulthood. In addition to the premiere screenings, we will present “Peasants”, the Polish candidate for the Oscar. This animation pulsating with eclectic music includes many dance scenes.
Daniela Komędera who created the choreography for the film will be our guest following the screening. Another title in the programme is the feature-length debut of the Polish-Norwegian director Leiv Igor Devold, “Norwegian Dream”, an example socially engaged cinema.
On the lighter side, you can choose from the selection of comedies. “A difficult year” is a film by the creators of the hit French “The Intouchables”, about two people who lived beyond their means and were in huge debt. The black comedy trend includes the Icelandic film “Driving Mum”, which is also a story about late puberty. In turn, in “Dream Scenario” we will see Nicolas Cage as a neurotic college lecturer who begins to appear in the dreams of millions of strangers.
As part of the Cinema of the 5 Senses series, the documentary “The World After Work” by Erik Gandini, which travels around the world and examines what the word “work” means today and whether it still has any meaning for us at all. For younger viewers, Kino Sztuczka has prepared an extremely dynamic winter animation “The Fast and the Snowy”. The film is included in the repertoire of New Horizons of Film
Education.
Benshi, on the other hand, sees a variation on the theme of Oscar nominations this month. The presenters selected films by directors who are in the competition this year. Apart from the nominated titles, he series will also cover older films, “Nebraska” – a film directed by Alexander Payne is a story about old age and the importance of memories. “Memento” by Christopher Nolan is a mixture of various conventions from which a story about the search for one’s own identity emerges.
