Theatre Confrontations Festival
The festival was brought into being in 1996 by Janusz Opryński, Leszek Mądzik, Włodzimierz Staniewski and Tomasz Pietrasiewicz. The main idea of the festival was to confront the achievements of the Lublin theatre community with the achievements of groups from other centres in Poland and to present the most interesting trends in the world theatre. Since 2007 the programme of the festival has been created by Janusz Opryński, for years in cooperation with the curator Agnieszka Lubomira-Piotrowska. During this period, a great deal of emphasis was put on the presentation of the theatres coming from across the eastern border. Since the 18th edition the festival has been prepared by curators, Marta Keil and Grzegorz Reske.
The program focuses on the idea of confronting different forms and theatrical traditions, presenting the achievements of the most interesting theatrical personalities, finding new ways of understanding the theatre. Apart from the main programme, the festival is enriched with accompanying events such as photo exhibitions, film screenings, concerts and scientific sessions.
