Jesse Eisenberg’s latest film is an intimate and personal journey of the American star into his family history. Much of it is related to Poland, including the area around our city – Lublin.
The story of the relationship between two cousins, thirty-something American Jews – David (Jesse Eisenberg) and Benji (Kieran Culkin). The characters recently lost their grandmother, who came from Poland. It turns out that the woman left them a certain amount of money in her will, under the provision that they should use it to travel to the Lublin region. The cousins want to see the place where she was born and thus pay tribute to her. Their journey becomes a pretext for a better understanding between the two men.
The director and screenwriter is Oscar nominee Jesse Eisenberg (The Social Network, Zombieland), who stars alongside Emmy and Golden Globe winner Kieran Culkin (Succession, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World).
“A Real Pain” was largely filmed in Poland, and Eisenberg managed to film many scenes, as he himself emphasizes, in places related to his own family history. On screen, we will see the cousins at the Monument to the Ghetto Heroes in Warsaw, against the background of the POLIN Museum, but also in the Majdanek camp, and at the Old Jewish Cemetery in Lublin.
