“Aftersun” is a feature directorial debut of Charlotte Wells, inspired by her own story.
The young father Calum and his daughter Sophie go together to the Turkish resort. During the holiday they become closer than ever.
Wells touches the most sensitive strings, building her film from nostalgic impressions and fleeting emotions connected with an authentic holiday trip with her father to the Turkish resort in the 90s. The director talks about maturing and being herself in the child’s
relationship with the parent. One of the producers of “Aftersun” is Barry Jenkins, awarded with an Oscar for “Moonlight”. In the background we hear the musical hits of the 90s – from “Macarena” to “Losing My Religion” to the touching rendition of “Under Pressure” performed by David Bowie and Freddie Mercury (one of the most moving dance scenes in contemporary cinema).
