From visionary director Yórgos Lánthimos comes “Bugonia,” an explosive thriller that offers a darkly comic take on the modern era.
This provocative and subversive film follows two young men obsessed with conspiracy who break out of their hiding place and kidnap Michelle, a powerful CEO they believe is an alien come to destroy us. After locking Michelle in a basement, she comes face to face with her enemy. Thus, both sides – conspiracy theorists and the heartless corporate executive – soon find themselves in the middle of a battle that is as unpredictable as it is unexpectedly moving.
The film is anchored by powerful performances from Jesse Plemons, Emma Stone, and newcomer Aidan Delbis, as well as a devilishly sharp script by Will Tracy.
Lánthimos creates a bold, original portrait of what it means to laugh, cry, and feel disgust at the fate of humanity.
