The first American film by Małgorzata Szumowska is a breathtaking and chilling journey into one of the most dangerous mountain ranges in the world.
It is also a story about other elements: loss, risk and courage that allows you to survive the worst storm in life. Hollywood star Naomi Watts (“Impossible”, “Birdman”, “Mulholland Drive”) stars in the thriller inspired by a true story, combining fragility with steadfastness in perfect proportions.
The heroine, Pam Bales, sets off on a lonely hike to Washington Mountain, the highest peak of the unpredictable White Mountains, torn by icy winds in the American state of New Hampshire. This trip is her ritual and a way to deal with dramatic memories. And it is precisely on the day when she feels weakest that she will have to show her greatest strength: someone will die if she does not help them. But if she decides to help, she can die too. “Infinite Storm” draws us into the middle of a monumental landscape, raging elements and extreme emotions. The films reminds us that beauty and horror are sometimes inseparable, and life crises are inevitable, just like sudden weather changes. The moving story of Pam Bales teaches that they are worth facing and never giving up.
“Infinite Storm” with fantastic cinematography by Michał Englert is another joint project of this director and cinematographer duo, whose accounts include “There will never be snow again” and “Flesh”. Their latest film, exploring the situation of crisis, but also the relationship between man and nature, is sometimes compared to such stories about courage and hope as “The Revenant” or “Gravity”.

Series: After Gdynia, part 1
Traditionally, the last two months of the year are devoted to the latest Polish productions that have been shown at the film festival in Gdynia. In November, we will present co-productions with an international cast. Winner of the Jury Prize in Cannes and the Polish Oscar candidate “IO”, directed by Jerzy Skolimowski, is an updated variation on the classic film “For Luck, Baltazar” by Robert Bresson. For the second time in the history of cinema, we will have the opportunity to see the world from the donkey’s perspective. One of the roles is played by the eminent French actress Isabelle Huppert. On the other hand, “Infinite Storm” is the first film about the mountains directed by Małgorzata Szumowska. In the lead role, two-time Oscar-nominated British actress Naomi Watts. “Silence Twins, the winner of this year’s festival in Gdynia, is the English-language debut of the young but award-winning director Agnieszka Smoczyńska, telling the authentic story of twin sisters who have decided to remain silent in front of the whole world. We get off to a good start of the review of important productions: whether one by a donkey, reflected by a mountain echo, or expressed without words.
