The Quintet's music is a combination of compositions inspired by classic and avant-garde jazz, Hip-Hop of the 90s, and raw post punk.
Teo Olter Quintet was founded in 2022 during a recording session for the album "Portraty 2", a project by U Know Me Records. Marcin Groszkiewicz (Groch) invited eight of the most versatile drummers on the Polish scene. Teo Olter's song "How am I doing? Where am I going?” which opens the album page. Was created during that session. It was released as a single by the British label Music is my Sanctuary. The band debuted in Warsaw during the album's premiere concert.
The band’s sound is based are two bass lines that complement each other rhythmically and in colour. Kamila Drabek (O.N.E., Kamila Drabek's Tercet) plays double bass and Tymek Bryndal (Pokusa, Tropical Soldiers in Paradise) bass guitar. This original instrumentation allows the drums and keyboards – Aleksander Żurowski (Żal, Baasch) – to play open structures, and improvise without losing the strength of the groove and rhythm. The lineup is completed by Tadeusz Cieślak (Brutah, Ronnie N) on tenor saxophone, and Monia Muc (O.N.E., Król, Ciśnienie) also appears on the album as a guest on alto
saxophone.
The band's debut album "In Pursuit of Happiness" will be released in spring 2024.
