17 short films will compete in three categories for this year’s awardsa: animated film, features and documentary. Although less often mentioned in the media than full-length films, short productions also present significant, inspiring stories in an innovative form.

The importance of short films for world cinematography was recognized already in the 1930s, rewarding their best creators with an Oscar. This category functions to this day – the best short feature films, documentaries and animated films are awarded.
