Throat singing is a fascinating musical tradition in the Siberian Republic of Tuva. Just how fascinating it is is perhaps best demonstrated by the fact that it has been the cultural reserve of men. The exclusion of women has been reinforced by the belief that it causes infertility.
The main protagonist in the film, Choduraa Tumat, is a master and teacher of Tuvan throat singing. But she mainly teaches boys. Her two female students hide their passion from their families and avoid a difficult confrontation with the power of tradition. Will throat singing give them the strength to fight for personal freedom?
