Where there’s a will there’s a way? The main character of Martin Scorsese’s film will find out.
Rupert Pupkin (Robert De Niro) is deprived of any talent but sees himself as a stage comedian. He is trying to get into the world of show business, first through asking for autographs of the stars. His idol is the famous TV comedian Jerry Langford (Jerry Lewis). With the help of a friend, Masha, he manages to get closer to the comedian, sneaking into his car and asking for an autograph. Having supposedly saved him from the romances of the temperamental Masha, he expects gratitude. From that moment, Pupkin has been harassing the star, asking for help in making his career.
The screening will be followed by a discussion.

Cycle: Comics
As the saying goes, laughter is good for your health. It is difficult to deny it, with numerous studies to prove it. We especially need it at times when reality becomes difficult and overwhelming – it helps to relieve tension and gain distance. Laughter can be loud, contagious or you can laugh through tears… They know very well how life-giving it is. Comedians, whom we are talking about, are drawn to the limelight for various reasons. Each of them has his own story and sometimes hides a completely different face behind the one presented on stage – full of doubts and complexes. They have one thing in common: charisma, diligence and an insatiable need to admire and entertain the crowds. In our April cycle you will get to know them better. “I love you anyway”, “The King of comedy”, “Joker”, “Lenny” – these are four different comedians. It’s worth taking a look at all of them. And never underestimate them – just take the example of the President of Ukraine, who hid the face of the hero under the mask of a comedian. The protagonists of our films also have more than one face and can sometimes surprise you in a spectacular way.
The project is co-financed by the Polish Film Institute.
