British actor Benedict Cumberbatch plays a man whose world is shattered by the sudden death of his wife, the mother of two young boys.
The grief-stricken protagonist must learn to live anew for his children and himself. He struggles to maintain a semblance of normalcy, and the house is filled with the smell of burnt toast and inconsolable despair. Through the cracks of everyday life, the Raven, a huge black bird, a symbol of the nightmare he endures, his only companion in grief, penetrates the widower’s life. The Raven haunts, comforts, guiding the family through chaos, sadness, and unexpected moments of solace.
“The Thing With The Feathers” is a surprising story, full of original ideas, about finding hope in moments of deepest darkness. In one of his most personal projects, which he also produced, Benedict Cumberbatch boldly tackles the topic of male crisis and maturing into parenthood – much like he did a few years ago with “C’mon C’mon” and before that with the classic “Kramer vs. Kramer.” He reminds us that the experience of loss – though painful – is an inherent part of life, one that shapes and transforms us.
