Hamid Drake and William Parker are, according to many free jazz enthusiasts, one of the best drum and bass duets of our time.
Separately, they are also recognized figures of the jazz scene, entering the pages of history with the merits and recognition of the media, critics and listeners around the world. Their collaboration began almost three decades ago with Peter Brötzmann’s “Die Like A Dog” quartet. After many music collaborations, incl. with Jemeel Moondoc, Frode Gjerstad, Joe Morris, Daniel Carter, they got in touch with the American tenor saxophonist John Dikeman, continuing their cooperation. The quartet is complemented by Luís Vicente, a Portuguese trumpeter who previously worked with many recognized jazzmen in Europe, incl. Dikeman, who resides in the Netherlands, but not with the other two musicians. During the first meeting of the musicians, a bond and understanding were established, which resulted in the release of the album “Goes Without Saying, But It’s Got To Be Said” during the pandemic in 2021, very positively assessed by critics around the world.
