Zgniłość is a new band of Krakow’s poet Marcin Świetlicki and pianist Michał Wandzilak (Świetliki).
Zgniłość was born from the Jazztliki band, playing jazz covers of the biggest hits of Świetliki band. Their music can be described as postpostironic-post cold wave – postsass. The band boldly refers to the best Pomeranian and Krakow’s musical traditions. Świetlicki and Wandzilak invited young jazzmen from the Tri-City: Michał Ciesielski and Dawid Lipka, Maciej Sadowski and Tomasz Kopra to cooperate. The writer Mariusz Czubaj (alto saxophone) has also been supporting the line for over a year.
In May of 2017 a double-sided audiobook by Marcin Świetlicki “Drobna Zmiana” was released (A5 Publisher), with Zgniłość providing the music for the work,. This is the first audiobook in the world recorded live with an improvising band and live audience. Currently the band is on tour promoting their second album, “Siedmiościan”. The CD contains, alongside the original compositions, a series of surprising musical reinterpretations (including “Mmmorderstwo” or “Przysiadalność”). The legendary trumpeter Antoni “Ziut” Gralak and well-known actress Julia Kamińska took part in the recordings. The album received the TopNote note from the JazzPRESS magazine and became one of the five albums of the year 2017 according to the Playboy magazine.
