Lithos [λίθος] in Ancient Greek means a stone. The creators of the performance are interested in the way up the hill, to the top of their own abilities, and at the same time the road in which failures are more important than reaching the top.
The performance draws from the Myth of Sisyphus by Albert Camus – it is not the going higher that is the moment of power, but the moment when you have to go back under the weight of the trail. In defeat, a person is able to find the strength to go higher. The dancers carry their Lithos with the grace and beauty of their struggle, until they finally reach the place, where each of us wants to be – to fully be ourselves. Jacek Owczarek, a choreographer associated with Łódź for a decade and director of Materia, in his latest production combines the experience of working on a figure in contemporary dance with the dramaturgy of dance. He invited choreographer Witold Jurewicz and Elżbieta Chowaniec, a playwright with whom he has been working for several years, to create the performance and work with dancers. The music was created by Pimon Lekler, a young composer, violinist, pianist and producer from Łódź, who is currently working in Berlin.
