An international project balancing jazz, hip-hop, electronica and Haitian vodou.
Their debut album was released in 2024 on the respected Backwoodz label, and the band creates intense, improvised music full of groove, sonic contrasts and non-obvious sound combinations. ØKSE means ‘axe’ in Danish, but the name also refers to Ashe – the spiritual energy flowing through everything living and inanimate. She is the driving force behind the band – both in their recordings and in their mesmerising live shows. ØKSE crosses genre boundaries, creating a dense, expressive sound world where free jazz meets hip-hop rhythms and the spirituality of traditional cultures.
