An unexpected fourth meeting with Lublin Jazz Festival – a short, but perhaps the most intense one. Two bands will meet on one stage: the Lublin trio Psia Ruta and Warsaw’s Pokusa.
Both are redefining contemporary improvisation in their own uncompromising way. Together, they will tell a coherent, uncompromising story of improvisation – one that will happen only once.
Psia Ruta
A folk name for Bylica Wormwood, a magical Slavic plant that wards off evil spirits. The trio explores the realms of dense and gritty guitar music, free jazz, and improvised music in its broadest sense. It is the natural result of a long-standing musical friendship and many collaborative projects.
Maciej ‘Piołun’ Połynko – guitar
Karol ‘Kolor’ Gadzało – double bass
Łukasz Prokop – drums
Pokusa
Jazz, friendship, experiment. The band formed in 2012. Their sound draws from the uncompromising nature of free jazz, combining it with influences of electronic and experimental music, as well as hip-hop. Pokusa released their first album, ZERO, in 2013 at Casablanca Studios. Their second, EINZ, in 2018 at LADO ABC. With this album, the trio toured Germany and Belgium, played numerous concerts in Poland, and also at festivals such as OFF Festival, Jazz Jantar, Jazz nad Odrą, East of Culture – Different Sounds, and Unsound. In 2020, a cassette was released by DREAMLAND SYNDICATE; it was the first installment of the Live at Pogłos (RIP) release series. The band also performed with an expanded lineup – Pokusa XXL, which invited some of the most interesting figures from across generations of Polish music (Piotr Pawlak, Kuba Więcek, Tomasz Duda, Dominika Korzeniecka, Gosia Wrzosek, Miron Grzegorkiewicz). Their third album – D.W.A., recorded in the summer of 2020 at the legendary Zolton/Morton studio, was released in 2021. After the last album, there was a break for musicians to develop outside the band, including members of the Teo Olter Quintet, Maja Laura Septet, Artificialice, Tropical Soldiers in Paradise, Natan Kryszk Solo, and Robert Diabeł, only to return soon with new material.
Tymek Bryndal – bass guitar
Natan Kryszk – baritone saxophone
Teo Olter – drums
