Acclaimed Polish cellist and composer Dobrawa Czocher returns with her second solo album, “State of Matter.” The concert will feature contemplative yet sonically rich works that represent a significant evolution of her artistic language.
Dobrawa Czocher was quickly hailed as “one of the most acclaimed contemporary cellists in Europe.” She began playing the instrument at the age of 7. The artist is a graduate of two prestigious universities: the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw and the German Hochschule für Musik in Detmold. From 2018 to 2023, she was a member of the Mieczysław Karłowicz Symphony Orchestra in Szczecin, where she served as soloist-leader.
Dobrawa is known for her ability to expand the spectrum of the cello’s sound. The composer can move seamlessly between classical music and contemporary, more experimental approaches. Her talent is based on combining impeccable technique with boundless imagination and expressive depth.
The artist has collaborated with her friend and pianist Hania Rani for many years. In 2015, the duo released their debut album, “Biała Flaga,” featuring interpretations of Grzegorz Ciechowski’s famous compositions. The release was a huge success in Poland and led to the international premiere of their first, fully original album, “Inner Symphonies,” which was released in 2021 by the legendary Deutsche Grammophon label, making Dobrawa and Hania the youngest composer duo in the label’s history.
The composer’s second album, “State of Matter,” will be released on March 27, 2026, by 130701, a subsidiary of the British label FatCat Records. In this new musical chapter, Dobrawa Czocher expands both her instrumentation and compositional approach. Percussive cello techniques intertwine with synthesizers, non-analog electronics, and—appearing for the first time in her work—her own multi-layered vocals.
The album is announced by the moving single “Blue,” accompanied by a captivating music video. The video visually expands on the album’s main themes: water, movement, and transformation.
The rhythm-driven and fluid track introduces a multi-layered “choir” composed entirely of Dobrawa’s voice, adding a new intimacy and warmth to her sonic palette.
