23rd MDAG – Documentaries That Stay with You

The year’s most talked-about films, important topics, and cinema that offers no easy answers. A weekend with the Millennium Docs Against Gravity Festival at the Centre for Cultures Cinema is an event that has become a permanent fixture in our programme.

Millennium Docs Against Gravity is one of the largest documentary film festivals in the world, known for bold, moving, and beautifully crafted films. This year’s 23rd edition is held under the theme “Searching” – film makers are searching for new ways to tell reality, and audiences are searching for meaning, understanding, and points of reference in an increasingly complex world. From May 15th to 17th, we will see six selected titles from this year’s program – films that have received widespread attention, and won awards.

23. Millennium Docs Against Gravity Weekend:

Friday / May 15th
6.00 pm – Candidates of Death
8.00 pm – Frost Without Snow and Ice

Saturday / May 16th
6.00 pm – Girl Climber
7.45 pm – Orwell: 2+2=5

Sunday / May 17th
6.00 pm – Broken English
8.00 pm – Time and Water

The program includes “Death Candidates,” a shocking portrait of people living on the brink of life and death, and “Frost Without Snow and Ice” an intimate story about humanity’s relationship with nature and wilderness. On Saturday, “Girl Cimber” a film about transcending one’s limitations—both physical and mental—and “Orwell 2+2=5,” a timely and disturbing portrayal of a world where truth increasingly loses out to manipulation.

The weekend will conclude with screenings of “Broken English,” a story about identity and communication in a world of divisions, and “Time and Water,” a reflective, visually mesmerizing tale about transience and climate change.

This is the second edition of the festival in Lublin, which annually attracts audiences eager for ambitious, timely, and moving stories.
