The official opening event of the summer season at the Centre’s Inner Courtyard. Atanas Valkov is an artist pushing the boundaries of reality. Piano, Japanese AI, and sounds from the depths of space merge during his concert into one captivating musical landscape.
This isn’t just another neoclassical album. It’s a clash between humanity, technology, and infinity. Thanks to his collaboration with Mark McCaughrean – a distinguished astronomer, founder of Space Rocks, and advisor to the European Space Agency (ESA) – Valkov gained access to raw data from key space missions from ESA, NASA, and JAXA.
A key element of the project is how this data becomes music. In collaboration with the Japanese Qosmo AI Creativity & Music Lab, Atanas Valkov utilized Neutone technology (timbre transfer). This technology processes raw readings from space probes live and through AI algorithms. During playing, the piano’s sound and cosmic data enter into a real dialogue – the instrument’s timbre is dynamically transformed on the fly, creating unique, audioreactive textures that cannot be programmed traditionally.
Atanas Valkov – Polish-Bulgarian composer, pianist, and producer. Winner of prestigious awards (including the FMF Polish Soundtrack of the Year for the TV series “Król”). Known for combining modern technologies, film music, and ethnic music, Valkov has long been one of the most innovative artists on the European music scene.
