“Eternal Return” is a duet dance performance by Ukrainian artists Rita Lira and Daria Koval exploring cycles in nature and human history, with a particular focus on the recurring nature of war.
Inspired by Friedrich Nietzsche’s concept of “eternal return,” the work brings together contemporary dance, scientific theory, visual art, and documentary material. Through repetition, reversal, improvisation, and ritual, the performers examine how personal and collective histories repeat across generations.
The performance seeks to transform dance into a ritual for breaking destructive cycles and imagining a different, more hopeful future.
Rita Lira & Daria Koval are Ukrainian contemporary dance artists, choreographers, and performers whose practices explore personal and collective experiences through movement.
Daria Koval is a Ukrainian contemporary dance artist, choreographer, and performer whose practice unfolds at the intersection of choreography, documentary storytelling, and somatic research. Originally from Dnipro, Ukraine, her work investigates how political systems, and collective memory become embodied through movement, language, gesture, and physical behavior.
Following the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, her artistic focus shifted toward themes of trauma, migration, identity reconstruction, and the body as a political and emotional archive. Her works have been presented internationally across festivals, residencies, and interdisciplinary platforms throughout Europe.
