“Horror noire” is a splendidly made and executed documentary about the role of African Americans in film history. The actors in iconic films, authors, and the young generation of filmmakers share their own experiences and thoughts of the most essential moments for black horror and their influence on the genre. They discuss iconic films such as “Dawn of the Dead”, “The Thing” or “Candyman” from the viewpoint of the black community. They present how the image of African Americans in film has changed throughout the years, the stereotypes of the death order in classic slasher movies, and the birth of blaxploitation cinema. Xavier Burgin not only uses an interesting topic to engage the viewers, but also the execution – invited guests who talk casually in pairs let us take a look at a piece of horror history from a totally different and interestingly presented perspective.
