Memento Mori Dance Club – performative presentation of the excerpts of the script by Daniel Adamczyk
An experimental venture on the border of musical archeology, the axis of which is the search for dance rhythms in traditional funeral and religious singing (hymns for All Saint’s Day, Lenten hymns) from the Lowlands of Poland.
In 2021, the theatre director Daniel Adamczyk, within the dramework of the Ministry of Culture’s scholarship, created a script for a theatre play inspired by traditional music as well as ritual and funeral songs. At the same time, at the beginning of 2021, the Memento Mori Dance Club music group was established on the initiative of Maciej Żurek and Daniel Adamczyk.
Whatever there is in the world, everything is vanity, Years flow by on their wings or The Last Hour Strikes are examples of songs’ titles which are transferred to a different space than the funeral ceremony suggests – to theatre Not only the context of space and interpretation, but also the light and epic melodic form of songs with dance rhythms, make the theme of death, ironically, an affirmation of life, revealing a space for reflection on temporal matters.
The event covers various forms of participation – one can be a spectator / listener or, if you want, take part in a common singing or join a dance.
