To some, an idealist driven by fervent faith; to others, a madman guilty of hubris—sixty years ago, Justo Gallego Martínez began constructing a cathedral in the Spanish town of Mejorada del Campo.
He did so without permits, blueprints, or any formal training in construction—relying on his own resources and using almost nothing but his own hands. Many find this undertaking difficult to comprehend, especially in today’s multicultural and increasingly secular world. Through a combination of archival footage and contemporary observations, the film documents the creation of this colossal structure. What will become of the unfinished cathedral after its builder passes away?
