With her performance “The Fear Within” Jelena Kostić explores the tension between control versus freedom, and safety versus risk.
How do we find the balance between needing to change and challenge ourselves and our want for control and certainty? How do we decide what to do when something is expected of us while we feel the need to flee? What are we prepared to risk or sacrifice in our search of ecstasy?
In a career first Jelena Kostić is creating a duet between two men. She combines dancer Blazej Jasinski (with whom she works extensively) with the internationally renowned free runner Alex Laman and as such mixes up contemporary dance with free running to discover how far we can go in our search of freedom, sensation and adrenalin. A story about control – wanting it, needing it and feeling the urge to lose it.

Jelena’s work takes her both indoors and outdoors, in the city, at unusual and striking locations, and then brings it back to the theater with fresh ideas. Conventions are cast aside; immerse yourself in new experiences in unexpected places and moments. By bringing her visually and physically powerful movement language into dialogue with other voices and domains, Jelena’s work speaks to a broader audience than ever before.
