Lublin in the competition for the title of ECC 2029

Lublin is applying for the title of European Capital of Culture 2029 under the motto Re:union.

The first application will present the city’s creative potential. The experience gained during the implementation of the European Youth Capital Lublin 2023 program will be a valuable asset in the work on the application at this stage. In May this year a unanimous vote by the councilors of the Lublin City Council accounced Lublin's candidature for the title of the European Capital of Culture 2029. The next stage is the preparation of the application. Residents of the city and the region, artists, animators, informal groups, non-governmental organizations, cultural institutions and companies from the creative sector can join the process of creating the Lublin application. A special form has been prepared for submitting projects and ideas. At this stage, it is sufficient to present sketches and outlines, which will be detailed at a later stage of work. Deadline for submissions is July 7th.

A consultation point, "Information Zone", has been established at the Centre for Culture, at 12 Peowiaków street. Anyone interested can learn more about Lublin's application for the European Capital of Culture 2029, submit their comments, suggestions and proposals.
The jury in the competition announced by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage will decide which city will receive the title. Interested local governments must submit their applications by September 15th. According to media reports, efforts have been announced
by, among others: Katowice, Kielce, Bielsko-Biała, Toruń, Rzeszów and Kołobrzeg.

Lublin was fighting for the title of the European Capital of Culture 2016. Then it was in the final phase of the competition. The title of the European Capital of Culture is transitive. A selected Polish city will receive it in 2029. The selection of the winning city takes place five years before the year of the celebration, followed by a long-term preparation process.
