Dream about the City [SOLD OUT]

The iconic outdoor show “Dream about the City,” directed by Janusz Opryński, returns to Lublin. A new, deeply moving version will be presented at the National Museum’s – Castle’s Courtyard to celebrate the title of the European Capital of Culture 2029.

A night is approaching that will awaken the dream of our city once again. A dream of its history and its residents, of a place that for centuries has been alive at the crossroads of cultures, religions and nations.

Nearly a decade after its spectacular premiere as part of the European Capital of Culture Wrocław 2016, “Dream about the City” returns – following our city’s successful bid for the title of European Capital of Culture 2029 and the experiences that have redefined our community.

Inspired by Józef Czechowicz’s timeless “Poem on the City of Lublin,” the performance takes viewers on a journey over the centuries of history – from the time of the first settlers, through the splendour of the Union of Lublin and the city’s multicultural flourishing, to the Lublin July, the COVID-19 pandemic, the outbreak of the full-scale war in Ukraine, and the present day.

Lublin’s turbulent history is told by circus performers and acrobats suspended above the audience, balancing on tightropes, and aerial dancing. The whole experience is complemented by Jarosław Koziara’s monumental set design, Rafał Rozmus’s original music, and the voices that will carry this story: Zbigniew Dziduch reading the historical narrative, and Dorota Landowska presenting excerpts from Józef Czechowicz’s poetry.

Today, “Dream about the City” is a tribute to Lublin, a city that, despite facing the most difficult trials, has never lost its courage, and openness. The city has transformed its borderland status into a safe space for encounter and it draws inspiration from its multicultural tradition to build the future. It is an artistic manifesto of Lublin’s winning ECoC 2029 concept, RE:UNION – a story of reunion, overcoming divisions, dialogue, and rebuilding community.

Join the event, invite your loved ones, and let’s experience this dream together!
