The performance “Cantor. Storma ”, choreographed by Anna Godowska and directed by Sławek Krawczyński, is a dance journey into the depths of Tadeusz Kantor’s world. A journey resulting from the artist’s fascination with the artist’s work and deep intuition that there are still living sources of new artistic possibilities in it.
It’s hard to disagree with this belief, especially as our reality is more and more clearly implied by the experience of the past – the anger that flows from it, which entails fear for the future. In this context, the opening presentation of “Cantor. Storm” fits perfectly into this year’s “Rollercoaster. Collectors of impressions ”- curators: Paweł Łyskawa, Eryk Makohon – stretched between reminiscence, being here and now, and a vision of what may come. Today we collect what tomorrow will become a part of yesterday.
Difficult pasts, uncertain future – the slogan of Cricoteka’s current activities highlights the main challenge of the Kantor project. The storm which the creators and the artists participating in it are facing: the transfer of the idea of theatre of death to contemporary stage practice. This, in turn, provokes the question of how these ideas can manifest themselves in today’s reality – distant in time from the traumas of the 20th century, oriented towards comfortable living, focused on technological, digital progress? What would the space of these interpenetration look like? Kantor’s theatre is the answer.
The performance is a search for space-time situated between life and death, the past and the present. Space-time that is best represented by the phenomenon of dreaming. In this sense, the theater of two directors becomes a work with the unconscious and a dream.
