An extraordinary and adventurous film journey by Hannah Nydahl. She was the person responsible for the fact that Tibetan Buddhism became known in the West.
At the heart of this films is a beautiful love story that begins in the hippie days of Copenhagen in the 1960s and leads to Kathmandu, where Hannah and her husband Ole became the first Western disciples of His Holiness the 16th Karmapa. The King of Yogis, and the first consciously reincarnated lama of Tibet, changed their lives forever. At his request, young Danes began to pass the wisdom of Buddhist teachings and methods to the West. For over three decades they travelled around the world, meeting people from different countries and backgrounds. Their path led through a troubled, constantly changing world, from Europe to North America – they watched the fall of communism in Eastern Europe and Russia, and were kidnapped by partisans in South America. The document shows that the Buddhist ideal of freedom, in all its forms, is more relevant today than ever, and that not everything Tibetan should be considered sacred.
