This year, we are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the International Dance Theatre Meetings. To mark this special occasion, we invite you to enjoy three performances from the outstanding Large Scale series.
The uniqueness of this year’s celebration lies not only in the grand 30th anniversary, but also in an extraordinary milestone: the National Choreographic Centre in Lublin – a new municipal cultural institution co-managed by the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage, established on 1 January of this year – has joined in organizing the festival. After three decades, the Centre for Culture in Lublin passes the baton to this specialized institution, marking a symbolic step on the path toward the European Capital of Culture 2029. We believe that dance and choreographic art will fill the city in all their splendour.
This year’s festival places a special emphasis on artists from France. The voices of the masters will be heard through Kader Attou and the legendary Maguy Marin. Together with his Accrorap company, Attou will present “Prélude”, taking audiences into a world of virtuoso street dance, filled with ensemble choreography, “impossible” acrobatics and… lyricism, as well as reflections on human fate and social relationships. An encounter with Maguy Marin’s work, meanwhile, will be a magical journey alongside the characters of “May B”, a performance steeped in Beckettian symbolism, an atmosphere of anticipation and uncertainty, minimalist choreography and an enormous intensity of emotion concealed beneath a thick layer of theatrical form. A masterpiece. Joining the ranks of French large-scale artists – as we call performances presented on the Opera Stage of the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures, the festival’s long-standing partner – will be tanzmainz, a German company showcasing a thoroughly contemporary approach to dance and choreography in “Trailer Park”, created by the hugely successful choreographer Moritz Ostruschnjak. His other work, “Non ultras”, was recently met with applause from audiences in Warsaw and Kraków. Lublin audiences, meanwhile, will have the opportunity to see a performance described by one reviewer as follows: “Trailer Park is like a bold cocktail that you enjoy drinking, even when you can detect the chemicals and colourings in it.”
